A message from Mr. Sullivan:

To the Hamburg School District Staff and the Hamburg Community,

As we enter November and the Thanksgiving season, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible welcome myself and family have received. Coming into a new community and a new school district is a significant transition for not only me but my entire family. We could not have imagined the open and generous spirit of both the Hamburg community and our school staff has shown all of us to make this transition not only smooth but genuine.

From my very first day, I have felt a true sense of belonging. The pride you all have in our schools and our students is evident in every hallway, classroom and community event. Thank you for making me and my family feel so at home in Hamburg. It is truly an honor to serve as the new superintendent.

As we reflect on what we are thankful for this time of year, I want to shine a light on our dedicated teachers and support staff. You are the backbone of our district, and it is your efforts that create a positive and inspiring environment for learning and growth every day.

I know that the school year is demanding, and the well-being of our entire team is of great importance. I challenge everyone to take a moment to check in on one another. A simple conversation or gesture of support can make a huge difference, and it strengthens the supportive bonds that define our district and community. Let us all make sure that everyone in the building feels seen, appreciated and supported as we navigate the challenges ahead.

Thank you again, Hamburg, for your welcome. My family and I are proud to part of this community and look forward to our shared journey of growth and learning. We wish you all a healthy, safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Nathan M Sullivan

What's Happening Around HSD?

There’s always something exciting happening around Hamburg School District! Here’s a look at the latest news, celebrations, and highlights from across our campuses. Go Lions!! 🦁

Pre-K:

November is a busy and exciting month in Pre-K! Our students are learning all about fall changes, thankfulness, and families. We’re exploring how the weather cools down, leaves change colors, and animals get ready for winter.

During circle time, we’re reading seasonal stories, singing songs about turkeys and pumpkins, and talking about what we’re thankful for. In art, the children are creating colorful leaf prints, handprint turkeys, and festive decorations for our classroom.

In math, we’re practicing counting with fall items like acorns and apples, sorting by color and size, and learning simple patterns. Our literacy centers are focusing on letter recognition, beginning sounds, and storytelling and so much more!

Portland Elementary:

  • Students in third, fourth, and fifth grade took ATLAS interims recently for math, science, English Language Arts, and writing. This gave the students exposure to the configuration of the test and question types. The reports gave us good data for instructional planning.
  • Kindergarten and first grade students visited the Tommy Marshall Curiosity Center in Eudora and had a great time manipulating all of the interactive exhibits. Portland PTO funded the field trip.
  • Some of our students recently started high impact tutoring with Air Reading during our response to intervention block and some of our third-grade students started after-school tutoring.
  • PES participated in the Red Ribbon Week activities with the district. It is always fun to see what our students come up with. The Halloween costumes were the best!
  • Our 26th Annual PTO Auction and Dinner is being held November 14th. The on-line auction is open now on givebutter.com. Dinner tickets are on sale through this Friday, November 7th.
Area businesses have been very generous with their item donations. Check it out!

Noble Elementary:

The NES Fall Festival was on Friday, October 31st! We changed things up from doing trick-or-treating this year and I think it was a huge success. We appreciate all of the parents who sent treats and volunteered. It was a great day!

We have been working on student assessments to verify that students who scored "Potential Risk" on the Beginning of the Year Screener are still showing a need for an Individual Reading Plan goal. Student IRPs will be published on the ATLAS Portal by the second week of November.

Students started High Impact Tutoring with Air Reading on November 3rd. We have 159 students who are participating in this during RTI.

The entire district is participating in a school wide food drive. The building with the most donations will win a prize!

Please reach out if you ever need me!

Allbritton Elementary:

  • We held our Fall Festival on Friday, October 31st. Thank you to all Parents who sent treats and volunteered their time that day. The kiddos had a blast!

  • Allbritton has been working hard to take our first ATLAS Interim Assessments this month. We are trying a new schedule so that the students do not experience any test exhaustion.

  • We have celebrated growth each week with a visit from the "Growth Fairy" (pictured here with top growth in ELA students) who recognizes those who showed the most growth from their Spring test to the first Interim.

  • Our students started High Impact Tutoring with Air Reading this month. We have 104 students on our campus who are benefiting from this opportunity.

  • Our staff and students are rallying together each day with our new Student and Staff Mission Statements.

Hamburg High School:

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Friends of Hamburg High School!

We have had a great year so far. The school report card grades were released earlier this month, and we are pleased to have a C rating, but not satisfied. We are striving to raise our report card grade to a B through many interventions in Math and Reading.

Practices for our upcoming theater production of Beetlejuice are well underway. We held a Flu Shot Clinic on campus on October 2nd. Some of our students competed in the tennis district tournament on October 2nd as well. It was such an honor to have Mr. Jason Curry, author of "Finish Empty", speak to our football team on October 9th. This was made possible through a grant written by Ms. Kristin Morris and Coach Blake Johnson. Mr. Curry gifted each player with his book. Our Science Club and Shine Bright class visited the pumpkin patch in Milo on October 10th. We held professional development on October 15th, where teachers worked with Mr. Tucker on RTI (Response to Intervention). On October 17th, we held a blood drive, where many of our students worked it. Our pep rally for the Crossett game was held in our gym on October 17th. After the pep rally, our cheerleaders, band, and football team went over to the Elementary school to enjoy a Purple Cow with their students.

All HHS Juniors took the ASVAB test on October 21st. The ASVAB test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a standardized test developed by the U.S. Department of Defense to measure a person's aptitudes for success in military training and various jobs. It assesses skills in areas like verbal, math, science, and technical subjects, and results are used by all branches of the U.S. military to determine enlistment eligibility and potential career paths.

Jostens came to campus for cap & gown ordering on October 22nd. Our Spanish Club had a field trip to Monroe, La, on October 10th. The purpose of the trip was to experience the authentic Mexican culture through food and apply conversational Spanish phrases learned in class in a natural setting. The Be Pro Be Proud truck came to campus on October 23rd as well. The "Be Pro Be Proud" truck is a mobile workshop that travels to schools to introduce students to careers in skilled trades through hands-on simulations. It uses simulators for jobs like welding, truck driving, and heavy equipment operation to change perceptions about these professions and encourage students to pursue them as a career option.

We had our Atlas Interims October 27th-31st in Algebra I, Geometry, English 9 & 10, and Biology.  Oct. 27th-31st was also our Red Ribbon Week, where students pledged to say no to drugs. Louisiana Tech came to campus to meet with our Seniors on Oct. 27th. We held our FAFSA Night Oct. 28th to help parents fill out forms for financial aid. Some of our students traveled to El Dorado on Oct. 29th for the Green Careers Expo. Our Lions football team traveled to DeWitt on Oct. 31st and came out victorious!
Come see us at HHS!
